Our legacy includes iconic projects like Chrono Craft, a mobile immersive theater experience in Beijing’s Yuan Ming Yuan Park, where 20 custom-built buses bring history to life on a 15 minute drive through the park.

Eye Vapor, founded by immersive technology pioneer Jeff Smith, has been a trailblazer in the immersive entertainment industry since 2010—one of the longest-running companies of its kind. We’ve delivered groundbreaking experiences that captivate audiences worldwide, blending cutting-edge technology with compelling storytelling. We’ve collaborated with global stars like Beyoncé and Deadmau5, and served diverse clients from Microsoft and Nike to the US Air Force and DOD/DARPA, showcasing our versatility and innovation.

The Creators

Jeff Smith, Concept Creator and Designer 

Jeff Smith is a leader in interactive experiences and advanced entertainment technologies; he has spearheaded global projects for top brands like Red Bull, Nike, Microsoft and Pepsi. In 2009, he co-founded Eye Vapor, a technology and creative studio that designs live, interactive experiences, featuring augmented reality, video, 3D graphics and projection mapping. Previously, Jeff was World Wide Director of Graphics at innovative video game company Electronic Arts for nine years and Director of Development at THQ for six years.

For this project Jeff spearheaded the concept of the Chrono Craft and oversaw its design and development. This included the mechanical design, technology and software as well as story, content and 3D audio. Jeff spent seven months in China overseeing the project to ensure that the narrative, design and technical features successfully came together.

Steve Petersen, Creative Director

Steve is an Emmy award-winning creative director known for producing work that combines live-action and visual effects to create immersive audience experiences. Notable projects include the interactive launch event for Alien: Rogue Incursion Meta Quest 3; a four-story anamorphic screen for Creed 3 and the 2018 NIKE All-Star Weekend Pop-Up in Hollywood. He is also the co-founder of Big Machine, a leading LA-based creative studio that combines live-action storytelling with design and technology to produce unforgettable content. 

For this project, Steve oversaw key aspects of the project from supervising the script and story teams to leading the development of the custom visuals and audio. He was also instrumental in incorporating new technologies into the storytelling process to ensure that audiences would have a dynamic experience on the Chrono Craft.

Chrono Craft, Beijing, China. 2023-2024

  • Role: Designer & Director

  • Details: Developed a mobile immersive experience in Yuan Ming Yuan Park, crafting a show telling the history of the park in custom built mobile theaters. There are 20 buses each carrying 20 passengers operating in the park.

Vortex Domes, Los Angeles. 2012-2013

  • Details: Invented and created proprietary real-time dome projection mapping software. Used in multiple shows and installations.

Kinect Dance Game with Beyoncé. 2009-2010

  • Details: Directed a 2009 Kinect dance game development

Deadmau5 – Touring VJ/Video Director. 2013-2015

  • Role: VJ & Content Creator, 2 years

  • Details: Directed video content and performed across multiple venues and festivals worldwide, headlining over 50 music festivals and events globally per year.

Red Bull at Night – The Circuitry of Life. Los Angeles. 2015

  • Details: Designed a 40'x40' interactive cube with touch-screen projection mapping.

  • Details: Built a proof-of-concept for projection mapping IP in Beijing, advancing dynamic visual rendering techniques, hardware and software.
